Did the volume slider fail after you installed MagicJack?

If so, I would System Restore to the date/time before you installed it.

The thing is, if your volume level slider worked, then you installed something and it stopped working, that might very well be the cause.

Of course, that's not guaranteed, but it is a first step in identifying the cause.

You said, "That darn Magic Jack", (my underline). That suggests you had other problems with Magic Jack anyway. Uninstalling such problem utilities won't always resolve issues, especially if using them changed settings in the Registry and so on. That's why we fall back on to System Restore.

If System Restore fails to solve the issue, then we move on to other possibilities.

That's how we attempt to resolve issues.

Not that I'm any expert, but think that is just saying you successfully logged in.

What do you mean by "the volume pooped back on"? Is the volume slider working now?

Magic Jack has been brutally disappointing... dropped calls, screwed up sound, extensive behavior involving a refusal to dial certain phone numbers. Its all together a very high maintenance device... even for the price. If I had it to do again I'd chose Skype. Magic jack has also been screwing with my volume slider driving me nuts! All this time I figured I had a motherboard issue, and it ends up just being magic jack. A few other things to know about MJ in case you were considering it... there's absolutely no phone support, its all through chat... and the chat ppl are clearly foreign and only ever offer one solution to any and all problems- uninstall and reinstall. beyond that they're absolutely useless. Also, don't chose this product if you want to keep your desktop clear of a pop up with each phone ring, and once again after each hang-up. And forget about hope for adjusting a setting to prevent the dial pad appearing twice with every call- that option simply doesn't exist. I went so far as to track down MJ's ceo's phone number and email address- sent messages with cordial feedback via email and left the same msg in voicemail- no response. Its Skype all the way for me next year. Strongly suggest not subscribing to MJ unless you don't mind a lot of annoyance.
