Windows XP forum: Unable to install updates

It's not clear from your post what the problem is.

Does downloading work, then install fails, or are you not even able to download these updates?

What about other Windows updates, do they download and install properly?

What error messages, and which Microsoft guidance were you following?

If this is an 'install' problem, I'm thinking may be the Windows Installer is corrupt, and there is a Microsoft tool available for that, the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, but that may be the wrong direction.

When you try to connect to the Microsoft Windows Update Web site or to the Microsoft Update Web site to install updates, you may receive the following error code: 0x8024402C

Those error codes help to diagnose problems.

Other things;

Have you tried to visit the Windows Update web site to download and install these files separately? From Start menu > Windows Updates.

Malware damage. Viruses and other malware will attempt to prevent Windows being updated. it is in their interests to keep Windows as vulnerable as possible.

What about other Windows updates, do they download and install properly?

What other .Net framework does this system already have installed?

Try installing the .net updates in Safe Mode?

Since SP3 seems to have installed without problem, I am surprised this is an issue, because I thought .net Framework files were automatically installed with either SP2 or SP3.

As a last resort, try the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. But beware that the incorrect use of it could render other Microsoft software, eg Office, inoperable.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but if this is a problem unrelated to your "Unable to install updates" one, you may want to create a new discussion about it. Members will often 'pass on by' where they see a thread with a number of posts as they will consider that the existing discussion is just continuing.

So, new discussion, but please explain what you mean by this 'file format converter'.

If the problem is related to the one in this discussion, please explain more.
