No Drivers on Windows OS, can't back up to external HD

Hi everyone,

I am trying to fix my Windows XP laptop due to some issues. I ran a System Restore to an earlier point, but that kind of made things worse, because now when I go to the Device Manager, there are absolutely no drivers install. Everything is blank, I even check options to view hidden drivers. and nothing. My main objective is to install the Generic USB hub driver so that I may back up my data to the external hard drive. I popped in the Windows XP installation CD, and pressed F6, but that didn't install any drivers like it said it would.

I've tried goggle to find the drivers for the windows XP USB and I can't seem to find them. I only want to back up my current data and then will perform a clean install of Windows XP.

Can anyone please help me?

I have a Gateway 7330GZ Pentium 4 Windows XP 1GB RAM

okay, just in case anyone goggles this in the future, I found the solution to my issue. No Driver needed. I found this on Microsofts site

To resolve this behavior, set the startup type for Plug and Play to Automatic. To do so, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
2. Double-click Plug and Play.

If you receive a Configuration Manager message, click OK.
3. In the Startup Type list, click Automatic, and then click OK.
4. Close Services.
5. Restart the computer.



AFter this the Seagate expansion external hard drive was recognize and I am now able to do a backup =D
