Corrupt Internet Shortcuts on Desktop

After using System Restore to resolve some problems with user profiles, I found that all my Internet Shortcuts on My Desktop had become corrupt. If I try to delete them I receive an error message "Access Denied - Make sure the disc is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use"

I can add new shortcuts to the desktop and they work fine.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I assume you are logged in as an administrator. Can you make a new admin account and see if you can delete via that account?

Yes i am logged in as an administrator. I can create another admin account but how do I see the desktop for another account from there?

Login into another admin account, delete the item from other account. The path is something like C:\Documents and Settings\username\desktop\linkname In Windows 7, the path is changed to (most common) C:\Users\username\...

Boot SAFE MODE and try it there.

Use a tool like FILE ASSASIN (see google.)

Hi Bob

Thanks for the advice. I have tried Safe Mode and trying to delete from another account but with no success. Finally I installed FileAssassin and it deleted the files with no problems.

I am familiar with lots of useful software but hadn't come across FileAssassin before. What a useful piece of software.
