Windows XP forum: Internet Explorer 8 keeps crashing / freezing

What have you done in regards to malware prevention and cleanup?

Look up and run Trend Micro's HijackThis and remove what shows as a BHO. Also, set your cache to empty after closing the program using Internet Options.

Simple answer; don't use internet explorer it is marked by Secunia PSI as NOT SECURE! Instead go to; http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/personal.html and download Mozilla Firefox 3.6, install it and set as your default browser. You will not have all the problems associated with internet explorer. Also download and install the FREE Secunia PSI from; http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/ this warns you if any of your installed software is Up-To-Date, as there are currently a lot of vulnerabilities in various Adobe and other products.

In agreement with Stan. Install another browser and Firefox is it. You won't have anymore problems with freezeup with Firefox.

I have experienced approximately the same problems as kermitduke with IE8. In one instance I upgraded from IE7 to IE8 and fixed the problem by rolling back to IE7. In another instance, I have Windows 7 which leaves one stuck with IE8 and no immediate solution. Hopefully Microsoft will get the "half-baked" IE8 fully cooked and functioning before the next "half-baked" item comes along to replace it. (In my experience, Firefox has more problems, tho mostly different problems, than IE7 or IE8 and therefore is most certainly NOT a suitable replacement.) IE8 is just put on the street before it is street ready and that is the long and short of it.
