does windws xp 32 bit recognise and use 4 gig of ram

by fourfish - 11/18/09 4:27 PM

hi there my pc is capable of using up to 16 gb ram, and i am running xp pro 32 bit, however i only have 4 gig of ram installed ,i was advised to use the 3 gig boot.ini file switch, because xp pro 32 bit will only use 2 gig of ram even though i had 4 gig of ram installed, i run cubase the music software program which can use a lot of cpu, and i did notice a big improvment with the 3 gig boot ini file,so that was a success, anyway i was told by a another friend that i can not install anymore ram in my pc ,because windows xp pro 32 bit will not recognise any more ram and says i should try xp pro64 bit. however i was talking to someone else who said that xp 32 bit would use all the 16 gig capacity of ram should i decided to put it in. i am a bit confused, can xp pro 32bit use 16 gig of ram,if not how much can it use, also would i see any more improvments by using 64 bit. thanks.
