Warning: The battery cannot be identified

by nlypatel0 - 10/10/09 11:41 AM

Hello,

I have a dell Latitude 131L laptop for three years or so. It's an XP Professional, Service pack 3, AMD Turion(tm) 64x2 mobile technology TL-50, 800 MHz, 896 MB of RAM. Recently, I been getting this error message upon start up:

Warning: The battery cannot be identified. The system will be unable to charge this battery. Press any key to continue.

After pressing any key, laptop turns on normally. Battery sign is visible and battery discharges normally. Battery also charges normally when connected to ac adapter.

I have look other forums to start off and they said that changing motherboard, updating BIOS, changing ac adapter or changing battery won't help this problem. Of course, Dell doesn't have solution for this either.

One thing that I have tried was to let my battery run out and let laptop go to hibernate on its own. After turning it on without connecting it to ac adapter, I get message that do I want to continue with low battery. Once, I press any key to continue, this error message does away. However, error message came back after I fully charged my battery, disconnected AC adapter and turned it off and turned back on in the morning.

So is there any definite solution for this problem. Please, let me know if this is something that will turn into a serious problem and cost me hundreds of dollars.

Thanks CNET community!
