Windows XP forum: 169 ip address and "limited or no connectivity" Please Help

What I read: "media disconnected".

You forgot to tell one thing: is it a wired connection (loose cable) or a wireless one?

http://www.anetforums.com/posts.aspx?ThreadIndex=28415 (just the first hit of a google search for "media disconnected"). Most of the cures mentioned there seem to apply when it doesn't work at all and with you it works for 5-10 minutes before disconnecting.

My guess is the router (try another router or new firmware) or the laptop hardware (something like the switch turning off spontaneously or the wireless card breaking down). Try another laptop.
With "trying another" I mean: find a friend or family member that has one and use that for diagnostic purposes. It already helps a lot if you know if it's the router giving problems or the laptop.

- Your laptop works fine with another wireless router.
- Your laptop doesn't work with your wireless router.
That's right?

Then the possible solutions seem:
1. Buy another router or upgrade the existing one to be compatible with even your laptop.
2. Bring laptop back to factory conditions (system recovery) to make it like the other 3 computers again.

Running IPCONFIG /all from the command prompt will show it in the properties of your Ethernet adapter LAN-connection.

But if it works for 5 minutes, I'd say yes.
