Desktop 1/4 picture the rest is white

Hi there, I have a Toshiba, Laptop, it's Satellite A60, and I use Windows XP home edition. After a power outage i had an active desktop error page come up, i clicked the restore button but now 1/4 of my screen is wallpaper and the rest is a bit white block, I have tried to fix this problem a number of ways but it just wont change. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If something new got added to desktop could that affect it and how to i get it back to how it was?

that the Desktop image is complete but only 1/4 size? Or do you mean the image only shows a quarter of what it should show?

If it has reduced in size, then goto Display Properties > Desktop tab, and "Stretch" the image. That should increase it to fill the screen.

Desktop background

It only shows a 1/4 of what it should show, when I try to adjust by tiling or centring, it'll show full image for 1 sec and then go back to how it is now, left side of screen, 1/4 image, the rest is big white block. I have tried to adjust picture a number of ways will not change.

Time to turn off Active Desktop?

If you haven't already tried that, I would turn off Active Desktop. Then I would select no Desktop backgrounds, (None), then reboot the computer.

Once Windows has reloaded completely, see if you can now add a background image to the Desktop.

If that works, may be Active Desktop will work as well.

How to turn on Active Desktop. The reverse will let you turn it off.

Let us know how you get on.
