Windows XP forum: Strange folders in C:/

Strange folders in C:/

I have been wondering about some strange folders that have been appearing directly in my C:/ drive. They have names like 0a36ea8b4448aebc887670, and inside them is one file (a text file with a name such as msxml4-KB927978-enu.log). Why are these folders appearing, and can I safely delete them? Why are they there exactly? Thanks!

Looks like a Windows update file

These generally appear in the Windows folder only but I've seen these folders on other than the OS drive as well. I've no idea why XP does that but they are safe to delete.
