itunes 8 will not open-Windows XP

Have installed the itunes 8 update using Windows XP. Had much difficulty with it opening. Added music from CD then when attached ipod it froze up. Have not been successful in opening since. Used System Restore but got error message that former itunes version could not access music file created by newer version. Nothing seems to work.

Uninstall it . . .

Then reinstall it. None of your music will be deleted.

Itunes failure

Have done that without success. Also of interest, after I click and it does not open but the next time I shut down the computer I get a message that it is attempting to shut down itunes but not responding.
