I have tried several methods for attempting to download and instal Silverlight, none of which have worked. I am running Windows XP SP3 and IE7.
Always BEFORE attempting each of these methods, I have completed a "Search" of my computer for all things "Silverlight". Then I went to each of those items under "My Computer\C Drive" and deleted each one manually.
Interestingly, there is NEVER anything listed under "C/Program Files", despite the fact that "Microsoft Silverlight" DOES APPEAR listed under "Add/Remove Programs". I have tried to "Remove" Silverlight from "Add/Remove Programs", but I get the message that it cannot find the "patch".
As well, always BEFORE I tried each of these methods, I have "Shut Down" and re-started my computer.
The methods I have tried are as follows:
1. I have gone directly to the Microsoft website, and tried to download the MAIN Silverlight program that way. It appears to successfully download the 1.37 MB file, but after I click on the "Instal" button, I get the message "Unable to Instal".
2. I have clicked on "Microsoft Update" under my Start button. When I get to the website, it says that there is an UPDATE for Silverlight available, but that it is 0 KB in size. When I try to "Instal" that update, I get the message that "Installation Failed".
I think that the problem might be that the Microsoft website thinks that Silverlight is already instaled on my computer, because it DOES appear under "Add/Remove Programs", even though it appears NO WHERE else on my computer - not even under "C/Program Files". Is there some way that I can remove Silverlight from the "Add/Remove Programs" list (note that I mentioned before that I cannot do that by simply clicking on the "Remove" button).
Or is there something else I should be doing?
Any assistance you can provide to me in this regard will be greatly appreciated.
In your response, please write as SIMPLY as CLEARLY and COMPLETELY as possible.
Thanks so much again.
