Windows XP forum: Please help, Outlook Express file folders have disappeared!

I tried logging off and going back into the account. It's still not there.

I messed up in backing up the files. I've backed up everything else, iTunes, photos, important documents, but forgot the e-mail.

My mistake. I hope it's not fatal.

Any idea where recycle bin would have restored the .bak files?

since it's designed to find & restore "deleted files" but it's free & by a safe supplier (Makers of CCleaner). Piriform's "Recuva" prog:

I think it finds "all" deleted so may be a huge list to go thru but IF you know the names to look for, that should help. Probably can only recover files not yet overwritten (haven't needed to use yet myself).

I truly don't know what happened to the .bak files. I clicked restore and they simply vanished.

One thing though. I recently loaded a newer version of Office. I had Office 97 and moved up to Office 2003. The new version of Office has been running for a few weeks with no problems. I'm not sure if that's the culprit.

The new Office loaded a newer version of Outlook. I'm NOT using that version, but the older one.

I did search the .pst files that the other poster suggested. The files are not there.

One other thing. I recently got a goofy e-mail from Newegg. You now, one of their sales alerts. When I clicked on it a strange log in box came up. I deleted the e-mail. A day or two later Newegg sent out an appology e-mail for their e-mail error.

Not trying to blame anyone here, but I've read at other sites that a corrupted Outlook file could end up cleaning out your files. Does anyone know if this is true?

How do I save ( backup ) my e-mails ? Can I backup a complete folder, i.e. Inbox in one hit ? I use Vista Home Premium on one computer ( and Outlook Express is now called Windows Mail - but is the same to all intents and purposes, and XP Home on another ( with Outlook Express

I use XP home,with outlook express ,but except for saving each e-mail individually through "save as",which is impossible trying to go through all my past folders.I cannot access/open backed up e-mails either,as the computer just says it does not know how to open them(what program to use)?Why is it so different & difficult to save e-mails ,as opposed to normal files etc?If I now have to do a full clean of "C" drive,how do I get my e-mails back into O/E?
