Computer restarts when transferring large amounts of data

Hi,
I have been living with this problem ever since I built my computer and have finally decided to tackle it.
Whenever I transfer a large amount of data (>1GB), my computer restarts itself in the middle of the process. There isn't a definite amount - sometimes it will complete 2-3GB before it happens, sometimes it will happen after 250MB. I also noticed that it sometimes occur when I am continuously sending data, such as when I watch a video file on an external drive.
Each time it happens, I get a message upon Windows loading that says that the system recovered from a serious error. I look at the logs, but I can't make any sense of it.
This happens even when I am using a self-powered USB source, so I don't think it's a power supply issue. I have several ports, but changing the port doesn't make a difference. Any ideas would be really appreciated. Thanks ![]()
