System Builder OEM vs Direct Buyer OEM

I am trying to restore an HP PC that shipped with XP Home OEM. The restore disk is damaged and a few files in the i386 folder are unreadable. My ultimate goal is to reinstall XP home without purchasing another license because technically I still own the license, but the CD is damaged.

My question is. Is there a difference between the OEM version the HP used and the OEM version that I purchased with hardware? Is it possible to install my OEM version with the serial number on the PC?

I was also pondering trying to recreate the disk by replacing the damaged files in i386 folder with files from another version of home OEM using nlite.

The key won't work... Since it's a repair job (they pay!!!) you call them up and tell the the ugly truth and ask for them to pay for either the HP restore CDs (CHEAP!!!) or the XP OEM that you know what it costs.

nlite is too far off the reservation. Good luck there.

Restore disks are unavailable from HP. There SOL.

You might see them on http://www.recoverycds.com/ but I can't vouch for them. And XP is under 99 bucks at many places so it's all part of that lesson that we only lose what we didn't backup.

HP Officejet Pro L7380

Hi, I just bought a HP Officejet Pro L7380 printer/scanner/copier - it has an ethernet port at back. According to the salesman (after i bought it)says it isnt able to be networked!
Is it possible to upload new firmware or do something to make this network at home?

But what the salesman is likely telling you is they can't network it for you. They'll sell you anything but you are on your own to make it work.
