USB Device Not Recognized message- Can't figure it out.

6 months ago a message popped up saying "USB Device Not Recognized". I have 8 usb ports. The only one that i'm using is for the printer. It works fine. This message seemed to pop up after using my Sansa MP3 player. It to works fine. Everything that I have read about this problem is when people have it the device does not work.In my situation everything(digital camera,printer,Ipod)all work with no problem. This message went away for almost 2 months but now it's back again. Anyone help me out here? I'm running Windows XP home edition and the computer is 1 1/2 years old. One other thing. As i'm typing this the message appears and disappears on it's own. It will do this once every 30 seconds. MB-Foxconn 6100M2Ma-RS2H CPU-AMD Sempron 2800+AM2 Thanks!

Just took the cover off and followed the wires from the front USB hub. I have 4 USB and 3 of the wire bundles are plugged in but one of them is not. It looks like it's supposed to be like that because the wire bundle was tied up. The color of the wires in the bundle are black,white,red,orange,green,gray and blue.

Are these the "Handy" USB's at the front of the tower casing

Usually the front "Handy" USB's are connected to the mother board using USB 1.0 cabling...eventually the wiring wears out and the mother board can't understand the USB anymore.
I had an old computer that did that to me - I disconnected the front ports and just used the ones on the back to solve the problem.
You can also try compressed air to blow out the actual USB connections too - maybe some dust bunnies have settled in there and causing slight static?

Daviddude,You might know it but since I posted the question the message has not appeared. Something tells me it will show up very soon. The USB port's are indeed the one's on the front of the tower casing. So it's no problem if I just disconnect the front ones to see if that is the problem? Seems like the best way to troubleshoot the problem and it's no big problem to use the rear USB ports. Thanks for your help!

It shouldn't be a prob...

Just make sure the computer is turned off, you unplug the power cord, and to prevent static, touch the metal casing before you go inside and disconnect the cable. I was lucky in the front USB's cable connected close to the front on the bottom of the mother board.
When you put it back together and plug it in and boot it up Windows XP will (should) see them not there anymore and function normally.

USB problem fixed!!

Took the cover off and disconnected the front USB ports. That fixed my problem. I still have 4 in back so I will just use them. Thanks for the help!

Took the cover off and disconnected the front USB ports and that fixed the problem. I'll just use the rear ports. Was getting very tired of the "USB Device Not Recognized" popping up.
