Repeat Emails

I have a problem that happens every few months ..
an email will come in (or go to someone that I send from my pc) and continually receive and receive and receive. the same email can be received say, up to 15 times, and when this email has an attachment, a machine can be held up for a LONG time ..
it happens to me sometimes receiving emails from people, and it happens to other people when receiving emails from me.

I use Outlook express, but others that say I am sending the email heaps of times, have other mail carriers.
and also when I receive from others when it comes in heaps of times, they don't necessarily have the same mail carrier as me.

does anyone know what causes this please, and how can it be fixed??

Do you have a DELL brand computer??
Do You have McAfee AV???? If so see:

That's a good call on the McAfee spamkiller

If you have McAfee anti-virus and other McAfee utilities that could be a good call by Tobeach.

This might be a problem in 2 parts, you receiving duplicate emails, and you sending duplicate emails

The McAfee spamkiller could be the cause of you receiving duplicate emails, but if you don't have McAfee or are not using its spamkiller, then make sure that your Outlook Express is removing emails from the server once you have downloaded them. In OE > Message (from the menu bar), > Create rule from message, select "For all messages" from the first scroll down box. Select Delete from the server from the second scroll down box, then give this rule a name in the final box.

That deletes mail from the server when you have received it. Beware, if you use your account from different computers, eg at work and at home, you would then only receive the email once.

Sending duplicate emails may be a problem with viruses at your end. In effect you may be sending spam without you knowing it. What do you use to protect the computer from viruses and spyware?

If you are using dialup and the sending problem occurs only on large
messages: in outlook express under tools click on accounts, then properties, then advanced, if under sending a check exists for "break apart messages larger than" uncheck, click apply, then ok. This caused me some fits when I mistakenly checked this feature.
