How to remove $RECYCLE.BIN folder from removable drive

I have a hard drive connected to my car stereo to listen to my music. When my stereo lists all the folders on the drive (for the purpose of selecting music files) the first folder is always $RECYCLE.BIN. Not a "problem," but none the less quite annoying. I can find the folder in Windows Explorer, right click, and choose to delete it, but it's still there. How can I get rid of it permenantly?

That's a special hidden directory that is going to be created by Windows every time you connect the drive. If it were a Mac, you might see something like .Trashes.

The longer answer is that you might be able to disable the recycle bin for that particular drive, but should the drive letter ever change, you'll have problems. You could also only use a Linux LiveCD distribution to transfer music to and fro. Thanks to the wonderful NTFS-3G drivers, Linux now has full read and write support for NTFS drives, so you should be set. Of course that's kind of a long ways to go just to avoid seeing some extraneous listings if you ask me.
