Toshiba laptop crap software removal

Hi there, this may sound like a super strange question, but I'd thought I'd give it a shot to ask.
I bought a new Toshiba laptop last January that came with Windows Media Center installed. And an offer for the new Windows Vista upgrade. I got the Vista upgrade months ago, but I hate Vista it runs slow and it's just waful.
I want to re-install Media Center edition. The problem is that the Media Center Edition comes with 20,000 crap/junk toshiba software that you can't remove that easily. It also uses up +25% of the CPU even idling. Is there a way to install the plain Windows OS and not bother with the crap that Toshiba insists you should be forced to have?
The laptop came with a restore DVD Any suggestions?
