Windows update - ActiveX install

Well out of nowhere when I went to windows update in IE7, (under tools), the website wants to install Active X. Is there any reason why I should not allow this? Thank you for any help

You may not have remembered installing it originally, but it was there.. They've just recently created a new one to verify that you've got a legitimate version of your operating system.. The Office Update site is the same way. As mentioned above, if you don't install it, you won't be able to use the Windows Update site.
