GRUB ERROR 17

Ok, I screwed up big time. I put Linux on y bro's pc running Windows XP home Edition and then took it off by means of deleting the partition it was on. Now when I start up the computer it just says GRUB Error 17. I know what that error is, I just need to know how to fix it. I did not delete the partition with Windows on it. Someone please help.

What XP CD do we have to work with? If none I suggest...

Put Linux back on and the boot loader will fix this.

How to fix

All you need to do is get a Windows 98 Boot Disk from www.bootdisk.com (that's close enough, I don't remember the URL offhand) and boot from that. Then type the command fdisk /mbr. Reinstalling Linux is the stupidest advice anyone could give. (Bob)

Also, I have never done it, but I have heard tale that you can boot in to the recovery mode off of a XP CD and run the command "fixmbr".

It's good to read other ideas to fix this issue but consider the amount of days since they asked the question. One could think badly about replying to old discussions.

The S word is not tolerated here and you may find others not respond well to that.
