My CD player won't read my CD's

I have an HP pavilion a225c computer with windows XP home operating system. I have deleted and reinstalled the drive in device manager which is Sony CD-RW CRX215E5. It still doesn't work. sometimes when I try to reinstall CD player, I am getting a message that a color program from Benjamin Moore is involved. I have unstalled this program that I had purchased when I painted my home. Can you please help me.

If so, try the usual cures.

1. Remove this registry entries.

2. Replace the drive.

try removing your upper and lower filters in your registry

in your registry {4D36E96E-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} is located at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Class, once you click to that, open it and delete the upper and lower filter keys and reboot end of problem I just did it on a HP Pavilion a1540n worked like a charm.

Hi, thanks for this info. Before I do anything, as I know nothing about this, I want to make sure that I do the right thing and do not delete something that I shouldn't. I found these numbers in the registry. Do I delete the whole file? when I click on it there are two sub files that come up underneith. one says 0000 and the other says 0001. What exactly am I supposed to delete?

rightclick on that file in the lefthand display sheet you will see several keys listed, just delete the upper filter and lower filter keys, the keys are listed as that upper filter, lower filter, delete those keys and only those keys nothing more NOTE: backup any action in the registry you will never have a problem

ONCE YOU FIND THE KEY:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}HIGHLITE THE FILE 4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318 LOOK TO YOUR RIGHT AND FIND UPPER AND LOWER FILTERS AND DELETE THEM CLOSE UP AND RE BOOT COMPUTER.GO BACK TO DEVICE MANAGER AND SE IF THAT FIXES IT.I JUST DID THIS ON A GATEWAY MX7122 LAPTOP IAM FIXING FOR A CUSTOMER AND IT WORKED.HOPE TIHIS HELPS.THANKS JERRY
