Windows Media Player - Library won't add all music

Hi people,

I'm having a problem with Windows Media Player 10. Basically I deleted all my library contents the other day (all 4000 odd tracks) because some were broken & some I'd deleted, so I thought I'd delete them all and add them all again.

Anyway, I arranged all my music files into there own folders (by artists etc) so I now have a lot of folders and sub folders with music in. So I went back to Windows Media Player, and added them again by searching, and I selected the main dir of the folder which contained all the music, and ensured that I selected the "New files and all existing files in the library (slow)" option (yet I have tried them all anyway) and clicked Search. After the search was complete, I found that less than a quarter of my files in the DIR i searched in were found ! All of my music files are WMA files as well.

Does anyone know what's wrong, or how to add ALL files under a dir?

The OS and this player doesn't handle any oddly coded or broken (according to MS) files. There could be file permission issues too.

There is no set procedure here except to find some items that didn't add and then examine those to see why WMP didn't like them. There can be limits to WMP as well.

I know this sounds daunting since you took those months to rip your CDs to WMA with WMP. But if you didn't use WMP to make the WMA you don't want to know what a buddy discovered in some third party WMA "convertor." It took him a month to take my advice but he caved and converted it all back to MP3 and then it worked. I can't explain why he converted in the first place (it used to work.) I'm sure some loss happened but he's happen it works now.
