Windows XP forum: Can't ping wireless router

Look up and use WINSOCKFIXXP. You can't ping since you were not handed out an IP or the router is set not to respond to PING.

Then again, the security is not simply turned off. I need to do that on the router and the laptop...

Hi All,
I am having problem connecting to my wireless network with one of my computers. I have a home network with two Windows Vista laptops (wireless), MacBook (wireless), a Wii (wireless), TV (cat-5e), two printers (cat-5e), a NAS (cat-5e), iPhone (wireless) and a netbook (wireless). The netbook is a dual boot with Ubuntu 9.04 and Windows XP Home. I recently had to replace the router and configure the new router. EVERYTHING on my network popped up fine EXCEPT the netbook when running Windows. The netbook works fine when booted to Ubuntu. It can also connect to a neighbors unsecured network when working in Windows. Since everything else is working, the router is OK. Since it works on a neighbor's network and works in Ubuntu, the netbook hardware is OK. My wireless is set up to transmit the SSID and uses WPA-PSK (TKIP) WPA2-PSK (AES) and DHCP.

Here are the symptoms:
When I attempt to connect, it either gets stuck "acquiring IP address" or it acquires an IP address but cannot ping my router (I can ping my router from other computers) or, of course, connect to the Internet. I cannot ping my netbook from other connected computers. I can ping my loopback address 127.0.0.1 and ping my wireless IP address (when it has been able to obtain one). I have deleted the connection and re-entered the wireless key, confirmed the security settings match the router, removed and re-added the wireless card via device manager, and configured it as a static IP, and disabled by AV and Windows Firewall but nothing worked. Any ideas?
