Windows XP forum: QuickLaunch desktop icon deleted accidentally

Try this... was given to me by my brother and worked for me:

Restore Show Desktop Icon to Quick Launch on Taskbar
If the Show Desktop icon is deleted from Quick Launch, the procedure below will recreate the file.

Open Notepad and enter the following text:

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

Save the new file as Show Desktop.scf then drag and drop the icon on the Quick Launch bar or whatever location you want the shortcut to appear.

Thanks a lot Glenn,it is working you solve my problem.

While you can follow either person's advise and reinstate your shortcut icon to your desktop, you might want to learn the very simple, always there, keystroke to get to the desktop (available in XP and above).

Hold down the "Windows" key, and press D

That toggles the Quick Launch icons, but it doesn't restore the desktop icon.

The Windows-D key combination is available in older versions than just XP, also.

The Quick way I know how,(no pun here)is to right click an open space on your desktop. Hover mouse over New, close to the top find shortcut, left click and in create shortcut window, click browse, click desktop, click OK, click Next, if it says desktop in the Text box click finish or "add a new name" Now drag and drop the new icon to the Quick launch bar area. Hope it works for you.

You don't need it. Just hit the start key and "D" simultaneously.
