No Internet Connection after Win XP Reinstall
by Sir-Tech - 3/10/06 6:17 AM
I recently reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled Win XP. It all worked very well, except that I can no longer set up an Internet connection.
My computer manufacturer refuses to help because they say it's not a hardware issue. Microsoft refuses to help because I reinstalled the operating system My ISP refuses to help because they think it's a Windows problem.
I connect to the net (or used to) via Earthlink DSL. My computer is hard-wired to a standard DSL modem, which in turn in connected to a wireless router. The router and the modem have nothing to do with the problem. I am in fact posting this email with my laptop which is connected to the net via a wireless connection -- so it's clearly working just fine.
I believe that when I reinstalled the Win XP operating system, I did not install some files or drivers from the other installation CDs that came with the computer. I believe there are either some necessary files missing or there are some settings I have not properly set. When I go into Network Connections, the only icon I see is a 1394 Net Adapter, which I never ever saw before when my computer was connecting perfectly to the net. My TCP/IP properties are exactly right.
Anyway, any help you can give me would be much appreciated. Please let me know if I need to supply any more info.
