Windows XP forum: best text editor?

best text editor?

what are some of the better text editors available for Windows XP Pro? Needs to be free, because I'm pretty broke.

I'm used to using BBedit for the Mac -- that's free for the light version, and is pretty full featured. Good search and replace, line number add and remove, and so on.

Everything BBEdit can do, and a whole lot more. That is if you're looking for something along the lines of a programming editor, which is what BBEdit is.

Otherwise, it depends on what you're looking for in a text editor. There's literally hundreds of Notepad (SimpleText) variations out there.

Anam! I am working as software developer. I'm using notepad++, as for
compiling my source codes. First of all this
is absolutely free and is a pure Win 32 application which is very
helpful for me to work on Windows environment. I'm appreciating it
because it really gives the best service that I need to work on. I'm
working Java but, besides Java it is compatible with many other
languages also. If you would like to download notepad plus plus or
want to know more information then you may take a look,

.This is also a very light weight application which use very less
system resources.
