How do I get delete one of my two operating systems?

I just resently Installed Windows XP on an old computer, that had Windows 98. Every time I boot up the computer it asks which OS I wish to use. I only want the XP, and the 98 is using some of my space. How do I delete one of my two operating systems?

This will show how to edit boot.ini

You need to show hidden files for the file to show up.
Make a backup before editing.

You'll see a Windows 98 line, just remove that one.

As far as removing Windows 98 files....
Did you upgrade, do a clean install ? If you upgraded there is nothing to remove. If you did a clean install, you should have gotten a warning about another OS on the drive. Did you install to C:\windows ? If so, don't delete files, the two OS files are mixed, can't tell which ones. If you didn't format the drive you are using FAT32. I would save all the data, and re-install, wipe the partition and do NTFS.

2 OS on my computer also

Hi, I have xp/home and 2000pro both installed on a laptop I just got. I don't know why the previous owner did that but oh well... Anyway, whenever I boot up, it also wants to know which system I want to boot to. I am having awful memory problems, so I want to remove the 2000 as I like xp much better. How do I do this without losing files, programs, etc...? I'm not very computer savy when it comes to the os part of computers, so as much detail as you can give me will be much appreciated. Respectfully, Countrydove24

When you turn your pc on press F2 to access the the settings. Look for Boot Options and uncheack the Hard drive that Win98 is instaled on.e.g My Operating system that i want is on the C: drive so to turn off the other one i would un cheach hard drive D:.
