High CPU Usage Windows XP Pro (Urgent)

by masrar - 2/16/04 12:52 PM

I am using an AMD Athlon 2000+ Processor and 256MB Ram along with an Onboard ASUS Motherboard. The operating system is Windows XP Professional. The problem is that my computer's system consumes up 80-95 percent of the computer's performance. Eventhough there is no program running, this problem still persists. It is as if there is a secret program running in the background which consumes all of the system's performance. But how is this possible? I found out that there could be spywares, adwares or a possible trojan virus in my computer. I cleaned up my computer from all spy and adwares. I also scaned my computer a dozen times with various up to date antivirus programs. The only thing I came up was a possible trojan virus called pornovideo.exe within my system32 folder. I deleted the file. I tried everything but there is no imrovement on this issue. The CPU usage still boosts up to 95 percent without much decrease. One additional point is that I can use all my programs without them being functioning slowly. This seems absurd. With such high CPU percentage this shouldn't have been possible. What could be the cause of this high CPU usage? What are the possible solutions without losing much? Is there anyone out there who can help me out on this urgently? I need somenones help. Thanking you in advance.
