Windows XP forum: auto updates

well the auto updates is still doing the same thing with one exception...........it's at 51% now and is very aggravating. i assumne as i got no responses no one else has had this problem lol. i guess if i run recovery disk that will get rid of it and start from scratch again

yes i realize that downloads will take a longer time on dial-up but it's all that is available where i live and i have been downloading a lot of things off the net in the last 6 years but nothing has taken more the 9 hours which is was sp2 and this has been 2 months and is only saying it's at 51% . i think something is wrong but i am baffled, but thanks for replying

yes i have unlimted time on dial up, it is a free connection here, i turn the computer on when i get up at 6:30 and shut it off when i go to bed at 11 and i use it on and off through out the day. i tried to find out what the update was but couldn't, i even tried to shut the auto updates off but that yellow shield still comes up in my task bar............thanks Dan

yes i know but it is still downloading or so it says and is only at 51% after 2 months of down loading. after it finishes it will usually tell you you need to restart your computer.........thanks Dan

thanks so much i will try that, i'm not sure it will help with this problem though as i don't think it's a download speed problem because it has been downloading so long i can't imagine what update could take 2 months to download when sp2 only took about 9 hours as i remember lol. but thanks i will try that ! ..........Dan
