Windows Me forum: Outlook Express - No Pictures

In Outlook Express, goto Tools > Options.

In the Security tab, make sure there is no tick in the box "Block images and other external content in HTML e-mail".

May I suggest. Email images can be a source of viruses and so it is unwise to view "all" emails you receive, especially if they are from untrusted sources, (eg family or friends).

But Outlook Express's default view allows a "Preview" of each email as the header becomes highlighted. This means that as you delete or move the current email you have just read, the next one in the list is automatically previewed. If this one carries an image with a virus, you get infected immediately.

To stop this, you can turn off the Preview Pane, by going to View > Layout, and turning off the "Show preview pane" option.

This then allows you to choose which email to double click to open, with much more safety.

that in OE, when you click Tools > Options, then click the Security tab, there is no option under the Download Images section for "Block images and other external content in html email"?

Or is there no Security tab?

In my OE, (version 6), under the Security tab I have 3 sections;

Virus protection
4 options

Download images
1 option - to block images etc

Secure Mail
Various options for certificates and digitally signed messages.

What do you have?

Mark, I think the option regarding "Download Images" is only for those running XP SP2. Is that what you are using? CFred, are you certain the problem isn't on the other end? It could be that the sender's email or IE settings is what is preventing you from receiving images.

The emails I recieve from CNET have little boxes where pictures ought to be. These little boxes have a red square, green circle, and a blue triangle(in that order, top to bottom.) I have XP at my work and get pictures and what have you that I can't get at home with ME.
