Problem after installing latest Windows Update

Operating system: Windows Me
HP Pavilion, Model XE744, PID 52782-OEM-0009147-00557,
Windows Update V4
When I install the latest Windows Update (Security Issue for windows Me (KB888113) & Security Issue for windows Me (KB891711)). The computer works OK until I restart it; I try to log on to the Internet. It logs on & then I get a Blue Screen: Error 06:0000:00002C47. After that I get error messages (such as Mstask has caused an error in KRNL.386.exe) whenever I try to bring up a program etc. To correct the problem I start in Safe Mode & do a System Restore. System Restore identifies the Update as Windows Update V4.
I have installed this Update 3 times in the last 4 days & the problem is the same after each time.
I'd like to maintain the latest Updates & find it hard to believe that Microsoft would send out a corrupted Update.
Am I the only one with the problem & how do I fix it.
