Need help setting up HP printer with Windows ME

well im trying to fix a relatives older computer, and they got an HP deskjet 990cxi printer. the computer recognizes it and starts searching for a driver but cant find one, so i have tried manually selecting printers and going under HP but that series is not listed..

So i ended up going to HP's site and downloading the xp driver and extracting it to find it also carried the ME files, so i used those on the computer by clicking "have disk" now here is the problem. I end up receiving an error message at the end of the driver install saying "The printer cannot be installed now because its driver (hpz2ku04.dll) could not be loaded. The driver or the INF file may be damaged. Restart windows, and then try again."

Now restarting doesnt help either, I also checked to see if hp lists any other specific ME driver but it says it should be included in the operating system. The only utility they give is one to refresh the usb ports but that doesnt change anything. I could really use some help...

Maybe these are not supposed to be out there?

Back to your issue. I've learned my lesson on installing this line of printers. INSIST on the CD that came with the printer. Otherwise it's anyone's guess how to install the driver.

HP Printer not in Seriess

If your printer is not listed so don't worry about your printer since because not all printers are attached or listed integrated with Windows you can now Install it with your HP Printer Driver.

but there is no any problem with, but whenever you try to search your printer in the list before doing this Switch on your Printer and then try to find HP Printer. If unable to find then Install from Driver CD.

recalled means nothign in this case.

in this case the recall was referring to the power cord if you read it. it really has nothing at all to do with the printer. anyways i fixed the issue, after sifting through some archives I found a working winme driver but it stil didnt work so i tried using a parallel port instead of the usb port and it worked fine!

USB is and still is a new thing for this old OS.

Good findings but sadly the time has passed on this system. Make some plans for your next escape.
