Upgrade from ME to XP home

I've never had a machine with ME before. But my brother does and we just got him a used but a pretty new pc with XP on it.

I've tried researching a couple of ways to transfer files to the new pc, I looked at Apricorns DriveWire Hard Drive Adapter but it doesn't work with ME.

Is a couple of memory sticks the best way really to do this?

Are you wanting to just transfer a few files? If so, do both systems have a network card? If so, that's the best way. Or, if the ME box has a burner, that works too. But, if those options aren't available and both do have working USB ports, flash drives should work fine

You should be remove the HD from the ME machine and connect it to an available port on the XP machine. It requires some tools and has some slight risks but does work.

Hard Drive. If you have an emergency boot disk for WINME, then you can install WINME "first" as it is FAT32. If you go to options on your brother's WINME, you can burn all the setup for WINME on a CD.

This is assuming you have more than 40 GB of a hard drive.

Now the file system in WINXP is NTFS which not the same as WINME's FAT32. Now you can install WINXP since it is bootable from youe CD-ROM
THE ONLY thing I don't know is creating a partition for both to be on C\ but I bet someone knows how to do that in the forum. Darrell L.
