Lost Volume Control Icon

I had a trojan virus on my computer yesterday, though my antivirus software seemed to sort it out before it did any real damage. However, the volume control icon from the area of the taskbar in the box with the clock (sorry, not sure what to call that area...) has gone. I can't find a way to get it back. I know I can get to volume control via the control panel, but I'd rather not have to do that all the time! Is there something obvious I'm missing, or has some damage been done by the virus?

Go to your Control Panel, and open up ''Sounds and audio devices'', under the ''Volume'' tab, check the box next to where it says ''Place volume icon in the taskbar'',click ''Apply/OK'' and your volume icon should be back in the Notification area aside of your clock.

Ah, I knew it had to be somewhere! No idea how it disappeared in the first place, but that doesn't matter now. Thankyou very much for replying so quickly!

Turn it off and back on?

In the Control Panel, media or sound, uncheck the show
volume control and check it again. It's also possible
the file SNDVOL32.exe was erased. Here's a link on how
to restore.
