Flashing monitor only at startup

When I start my machine, I get a flashing screen which only stops when the Windows XP login screen appears. The monitor also flashes when you try and load the BIOS. I am sure that this is a frequency issue however I do not know how to rectify it. My Graphics card is an ABIT Radeon x600 Pro Guru and monitor is a CTX 19" Flat Screen (S962A) Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Start in Safe Mode:

Tap F8 at startup, select Safe Mode and proceed.

Go to Control Panel > System > Device Manager and delete the entries under display adapter.

Reboot letting Windows reinstall the drivers and hopefully solve the problem.

You can also try restoring the registry:

Boot up with a start-up floppy disk and at the A:\> prompt type

C: (press enter)

Now type:

cd windows\command (press enter)

Your prompt should read C:\Windows\Command, correct?

Now type:

scanreg /restore (space between g and /)

Press enter, select a date PRIOR to the problem, press enter, wait for the process to finish and reboot WITHOUT the disk.

If you dont have a start-up disk, download one from www.bootdisk.com.

Hi - thanks for the reply. Flashed the BIOS thinking this would solve it - grave mistake since I cannot see the BIOS screen now to change the preset dates wink.

No change. Tried it with another screen and works fine! Can only think that CTX 19" S962A Monitor is not liking low level VGA frequency or signal - however if you press F8 during Windows startup - you get the options clearly (safe mode etc...).

When you select safe mode - the windows loading screen flashes yet when windows is loaded (blue screen at login) all is fine.... help!

You tried a different monitor and it worked?

If true, the monitor is probably the problem, or the cable. Worth double checking.

What error message pops up on the blue screen?

Thyat mesage could help us.
