Palm disappearing?

I've been a very happy Palm OS PDA user for many many years now, and got very much excited when the new Pre (and better, the upcoming Pre Plus) came out. Finally, I thought I found a way to have both my trusty old tried and true Palm apps, and even a phone, on a single device (thanks to the Pre's Classic app). Recently tho, I'm starting to read that Palm itself is being called a brand in danger of going away completely, if not this year, sooner rather than later (http://tinyurl.com/yfbyd4f). Say it isn't so!
If this does seem to be something that may be happening, the proverbial writing on the wall, what's someone like me to do? My current TX is starting to show its age a bit, and I'm not sure if there is anything else out there that can still run my (mostly freeware) legacy apps--it's not like they are making large numbers of PDAs any more like they used to
I know absolutely nothing about other mobile devices, have never had a smart phone of any kind. And yes, of course I'm aware of the iPhone, etc, but was hoping for a more seamless transition, given the OS I know best.
So are there any other devices comparable to the Pre nowadays that can run these legacy apps? IS Palm really heading down the tubes? Comments?
TIA
