Which PDA is best for a writer/author?

I am debating between a PDA or Tablet PC. Would prefer the PDA because of size. I need one that:

- Has wi-fi
- Compatible with Word files
- Can be used with a portable keyboard
- Can open PDF files
- Can open email attachments (For some reason I can't get my husband's Axim 51v to open my web-based Hotmail attachments.)

I'm working on a budget... so looking for the lowest price model that meets my needs (as long as it doesn't have too many 'cons' against it, such as too short battery life).

Any suggestions?

best PDA

I am a writer editor myself and I find the old-old Psion 5mx the best PDA for writers. It runs on 2 AA batteries for months, has a backup battery (button cell) so no data ever disappears. It has full querty keyboard for 2 thumbs writing has a CF slot that can take 2GB card to store and transfer data. Slightly heavy but classic piece. Has spreadsheet and many PIM softwares and a touch screen. The company is closed and resale ones are available on ebay Uk. Next best could be Palm T/X. However writing in grafiti for long is cumbersome unless you get external bluetooth keyboard. That is my view!

A nice, big screen for document viewing (and editing in your case)
Bluetooth (for an external keyboard)
WiFi (for your emails)
Software galore. There are thousands of software titles out there for Palm devices. I'm sure there are many softwares that can open and edit Word and Excel files. Documets To Go 8 actually comes with the Palm TX so you can just install it on the Palm and your ready to go. DTG 8 can read and edit both Word and Excel files and can read PowerPoint files.
