Palm m500 Won't synchronize with Windows XP Home

I have a palm m500 PDA and a Compaq computer running Windows XP home. Last week, my PDA stopped syncing with the computer. It will act like it is about to synchronize on the PDA, but the computer never does a thing, EVEN THOUGH THE HOTSYNC MANAGER IS RUNNING and the dock is connected to a USB port. USB syncing is enabled on the desktop software, and I told it to sync all of the content e.g. contacts, calendar, etc. I have tried it on different USB ports, and have even gone so far as to reinstall service pack 2 on the computer, but all to no avail. This is a problem for me as I frequently use the PDA to keep track of my school assignments, as well as other appointments, and I am really slow at Graffiti. Does anyone have any other suggestions besides reinstalling Windows completely?

There was that old problem of blown USB ports on PDAs. Fix.

Go get the SERIAL DOCK or SERIAL SYNC CABLE.

It's so far out of warranty that I doubt it can be covered.

There's also a recurring issue with drivers on the PC. The owner will claim "I didn't change a thing" but I just go ahead and install the motherboard chipset drivers and my luck is that many times it will fix it. I'll check back tomorrow if you decide to reveal what the host PC is.

I had the same problem but I didn't install the palm desktop 4.1.4 try with PalmDesktopWin62.exe (72MB) and here is the link: http://kb.hpwebos.com/wps/portal/kb/common/article/33529_en.html#windows.
mine is working.
