what should I get?

Hello everyone,

First of all, this is an excellent site and resource. Now, to my question. I am about to purchase my first PDA. I have narrowed it down to the Palm T/X, HP IPAQ hx2495 and the HP IPAQ hx2795. I am aware of the spec differences, prices, etc. I will be using this for business purposes primarily but, I will more than likely spend time "playing" as well (video, music, maybe some games). Comparing the T/X and the HP 2495, which one would be a better "all-around" device? And, comparing the 2 HP's, is there a major speed difference in the 2495 and 2795, since other than the processor it is basically the same hardware? I am literally considering getting one tonight. Any other recommendations of other models are welcome too. Thanks in advance for you opinions!

Aside from the processor difference (520MHz vs 624MHz), the hx2795 also has more storage capacity (320MB ROM vs 192MB ROM). For your uses the slower processor won't make much of a difference, and the ROM can be taken care of by adding a memory card for cheap, so the hx2495 may be the better deal for you of the two.

Overall, the TX is the best deal for what you're getting, but I'd go for a HP iPaq over the Palm for two reasons...the more the better when it comes to the processor and storage, and I prefer the Windows Mobile platform to the Palm. If you don't have a preference and want to save the money, go for the TX. However, if you're a power user, you can't pass up the iPaq.

The Dell Axim X51v wins hands down. It's best the others when it comes to raw power, the 3.7" VGA screen is crystal clear, and its multimedia accelerator is a nice touch for watching videos, viewing photos, and playing games. It's currently on sale for $399, the same price as the iPaq hx2495, so it's definitely the best deal around at this point, and the one I'd choose if I had my pick of the litter.

We're in this comparison phase too. It's Dell and the T|X

The x51v or the T|X is what we are again looking at. Currently we have a suite of custom applications and the possible nightmare of PocketPC support weighs against the move to the Dell but for most I'd say these 2 are what I'd consider if the budget allows.

Many thanks to both the moderators who gave me some concise information and opinions. I'll be honest guys, I'm still torn. I can get the T/X and the HP Ipaq 2495 locally. I came within 2 minutes of buying the Ipaq yesterday afternoon at Staples. I was in a rush and had to go. I mainly wanted to make sure they were in stock. The price is 399 with a free BT keyboard thrown in. I have noticed that the Palms are almost everywhere for sale. I like the Dell as well, but I am assuming that I can order it only. I'll be honest, I am probably going to get either the Ipaq or the T/X locally. Anymore input would be great. Is seems to me both these items are very "close" in this particular race. Thanks again and I look forward to more discussion.

I'm in the same boat....but wondering about things such as memory, speed, etc.

I mainly want something to check email out with when I don't want to boot up laptop and try finding wireless access......

Any idea's on that?
