Hello,

I recently purchased a laptop and have install AVG 2012 Premium and was looking into a few other programs. After reading some reviews I like what I saw about the 360 Amigo and CC Cleaner. My question is would having both of those be too much or would having two programs like that slow the computer down and finally would you recommend having both a diagnostic and a maintenance/performance program on the computer?

AVG. But I've moved to free Avast as it gets better reviews. I also run CCleaner, using it about once a month to clean out the "junk". In addition to these I have MalwareBytes and Super Anti-spyware. I run these two about once a week.

The caution you need to take is whether these are active scanners. If so they can conflict. Avast is active and always running in the background. The other two are manual start (free) and do not interfere with each other.

I would never recommend any "Optimizer" utility.

The lessons we have learned in these forums from those who have used them and come calling with problems are too many to list.

Microsoft Security Essentials

I think at the present moment the best option for windows based pc's is microsoft security essentials which is free and provides more than acceptable malware and av protection. You do not need any other maintenance utility installed.
