PC utilities forum: I know, I know, Re: Backup Software Advice

I have XP Pro, SP3.

I got Norton Internet Security 2008. Along with it was a program called Norton Save and Restore. (I think it was based on Ghost.) I don't remember what all its capabilities were but I always backed up the whole c: drive and then did incremental backups. I liked its concept. The install disk was bootable and provided a partial Windows environment so Save and Restore could work and if Windows then crashed you could get in and see (access) your backups and then restore them so you'd have a working system, again.

But for me it didn't work right. It saw my card reader (SD, etc) and a USB flash drive but it wouldn't see my USB external 200 GB HD. And SD cards and flash drives (at this time) aren't big enough to hold big backups. That was enough reason not to use it but it also would start taking an extremely long time to backup (essentially not working).

I really liked the idea of having a bootable disk and being able to access your backups. Are there any backup programs like this? (For that guy evaluating Ghost: Is Ghost anything like this?)
