Build Upon Original Norton Ghost Image?

Norton Ghost 12.0

Hello,

is it possible to continue adding on to the original drive image or is it overwritten each time? There is something about recovery points in the program that make it sound like it should be able to roll back, or start imaging from them.

I have an image that I would like to keep indefinitely but need to stay current as time goes on.

If not I suppose I need to partition the external hard drive I'm using? If so, can I keep my existing image and still partition?

I have explored partitioning the external hard drive using the Windows XP Disk Management tool but it does not have an option for a new partition, not even a grayed out option.

there are many imaging options .. but if you image disk to disk . . . the last image will overwrite the previous image.

I usually do a disk or more often a partition to an image in which case I can make many many images and still have space left over. I simply create a folder on my second physical hard drive called "GHOST" and another folder "C Drive" for images of partition C and then create folders to correspond with the image creation date ...i.e. 080402.

When you create the image . . you create the image file without compression (high speed image creation), fast (medium speed image creation) or high compression (slow speed image creation).

Give it a try.

Incremental backups...

If you are creating an image of your hard drive you can create the full image once and from then on create incremental or differential backups to keep up-to-date. However, if you're just cloning the drive from one to the other you'll have to do a full clone each time.
