PC utilities forum: Acronis Disk Director or Norton Partition Magic?

Sorry but they have been ahead of the curve compared to slow responses by Symantec to changing times. Ghost for years required you to create boot disks manually and when SATA drives arrived Ghost (even new versions) promptly ceased to work. Acronis gets my nod here.

I know it's limited to creating 7.8MB partitions, and while I'm not sure about resizing my assumption is that they either have it disabled or severely limited as well. Thus, it will give you a 'feel' for the program but force you to purchase it to accomplish your goal. You should be satisfied with it if you do decide to make the purchase, though...I agree with Bob they're a few steps ahead of Norton, and know from experience it works quite well under Vista.

For years I was a Ghost user, but am quite impressed with True Image Home 11, and in particular with its new Try and Decide feature. In that mode you can install and do whatever you want, and once you're done decide to revert back to the previous state or keep what you did. (No need to clone your hard drive first!) Excellent for testing new software that won't otherwise run in a sandbox. On the more traditional cloning front, it's fast and accurate. While I've heard of it not working for some, I haven't encountered any problems personally. Definitely recommended.
