PC utilities forum: Free Word Processors

Hey Mark, I tried Open Office but I always found that the updating was a huge pain. If you ever wanted to update your suite, you had to totally uninstall the suite and reinstall after redownloading the huge install file. I didn't really like that and so I decided not to use it anymore. I don't know if you know anything about that but if you do, help in that area would be appreciated. Thanks.

and besides which, as you seem to dislike Microsoft products so much OpenOffice seems a good alternative.

The good thing is it is fully compatible with M$ Office saved file extensions, so you could use it and still be able to work with colleagues and friends with their M$ Office documents.

To be truthful I have only updated OpenOffice once, but on my broadband connection the download wasn't a problem. I don't remember whether I had to uninstall the previous version or not, so it hasn't registered as a particular difficulty to me.

There may be more OO updates available to me, but I am happy with what I have so far.

I've been using Open Office Writer for years now, I like it. I don't ever update it, I just use it, and it's always worked fine for me. Good Luck to you with it.....
