ITunes Resource Hog

I have a Toshiba Satellite 1950-A740 (Pentium 4 2.2GHz, 1256MB RAM, 80 GigHD Win XP Pro SP2)
Seems like it should be able to handle Itunes Right? (ITunes7.0.1)
When ever I load it up and watch the task manager it's pushed to 100% and that's just on loading. If ITunes just sits there with absolutely no input or output or scrolwing or resizing the window or what ever it seams to get along ok with my system.
But loading the Itunes music store and browsing it makes my machine grind to a halt. Downloading a podcast through it locks up my machine to the point that I can't run another app because it's sooo slow. (Try moving the mouse and it teleports from point A to B) And ripping a CD?!? Forget it I've waited hours for a single CD and gave up, 100% processor bog down. I ended up ripping in WMP10 in like 11 min.
Does anyone else have this ITunes System resource hog problem? Is it just me?
Does anyone have any tips or suggestions to help tame the beast?
