PC utilities forum: All my My Documents are GONE!!!

...as panic is the route of utter confusion, and disaster!

1. You installed a utility to hide folders and files
2. You ran the application and used it to hide your documents folder
3. The document folder is now hidden...panic mode on!
4. Fumble about trying lots of nonsense (why would a link to a secretly hidden file work? It wouldn't be secret then!) as panic builds.

What you do to unhide is likely a simple case of running the same application you used to hide them, but doing the steps in reverse order. If, however, you password protected and added lots of security options, that in a blind panic you've now forgotten, or made more complex, you'll likely never get them back now (if the software's any good).

Put simply, any similar utilities and software should be tested on a harmless test file and folder to check that you can do it both ways (hiding then unhiding). Only after reading all the documentation and help files and knowing you can work the utility correctly, should you consider more drastic use....

Using Windows system restore will do nothing but remove the applications you installed since the last backup point. It won't recover hidden files, but it will effectively break all software installed since then! You'll have to re-install SecretHider (one to avoid kids!) before you do any of the above.
