PC utilities forum: iTunes crashes on Windows XP

"I use my Sony Vaio laptop along with iTunes to play music at various functions and every now and then the computer will freeze up in the middle of a song causing me to reboot. Anyone else have this problem or a solution? Thanks."

At the office we had 20 Sony laptops a few years ago that would lock up. We used them as desktops and the final word after many trips to the shop was that the unit was only suitable for short usage and not for 8 hour stretches.

If your unit does this, then make it a warranty issue now before you get stuck with it.

For us, it was about a year later that a Sony tech told us that and returns was not an option. For you, it's time to make a warranty issue and keep up the pressure.

Check for driver updates at the Sony site. Be sure you have NO PARASITES (reference http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/ ) and use all the good tools like Adaware, Housecall, Spybot and Cwshredder to be sure.

About reformatting. Are you aware that many will reinstall the XP OS and almost with one minute of connecting to the internet, without a certain update or blocking a port (XP's firewall is OK for this) the machine is infected with the MS Blaster Worm or a varient.

Some don't have uptodate OS's, firewall (even XP's firewall can do...) or antivirus so they could have your issue.
