Password protect external drive

I have added an external USB hard drive to my computer. I want to password protect this external drive so that you cannot view anything on the drive without a password.

I expected to find many programs available to do this. But no, there are many programs available that are password managers, but that is not what I need. I just want to password protect the external hard drive.

I only found a couple of programs - Lockngo and StorageCrypt. Has anyone used either of these programs or can suggest another program? Thanks for your help!

Just one problem.

I've found such to only work on Windows. If I boot my Linux or plug into a Mac, the protection is either non-existant or the drive wipes out.

Look at http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&safe=off&q=FOLDER+LOCK but considering how many people have "lost it all" due to such programs you will find no endorsement from me.

well bob, my personal experience says that people lose their data because of their own mistakes not because of a software, after all there are numbers of software available in the market and doing good business, if there is something wrong with the software they must have been banned or the companies have stopped manufacturing them. I think first and foremost thing is that one should read out the instruction guideline first before using any software particularity if you are new in the software world. I tried <u><a href="http://www.newsoftwares.net/folderlock/" target="_blank"> Folder Lock</a></u> software and didn't face any problem yet because i have read the complete instruction on how to use this software to protect my files and documents. I find it absolutely safe to be used for protecting my thumb drive happy

People bring me this issue because it happens. Yes, they could have backed up their stuff outside the locked folders and we could have retrieved such but they didn't. Folderlock and such removes as well as hampers data recovery. I can say it did secure the files. Even from it's owner.
