What is the best way to compress large file so smaller size for internet tranfer

Hello all:

I seeking help in find out how to compress large file down to a smaller size with out splitting them.
I am running win XP pro.

I know each Zipping program has it now compression rate but I am looking for a program that can compress a file from 360 down to a much smaller rate like 36mb to 80mb I know some large companies can do this but I have not figered out how they do this. I have read and searching for the passed 14 days and none of them can tell me what to do. I even sent lettes to the companies asking this question and even went to differnet forms and ask the same question. So I hope that some one here can help me.

Most JPEG, MPEG (pictures and moview) as well as MP3 are already compressed.

Tell more, get more from the forums.

Hi Rob!
I have the same problem as this poster. My problem is I have a devil of a time sending pictures I have taken by e-mail. I have them in my images folder as jpegs and I want to send (let's say) a dozen pictures to friends. Everytime I get a reply from Outlook Express that says that my e-mail couldn't be sent because (I don't remember the exact words). But the catch is when I break the 12 pictures down to 4 groups of 3 each...then I can send them.
Personally I think it makes me look really stupid to send 4 e-mails out to people re the same topic..."Here's the next 3, and the next 3..."
Got any suggestions?

For pictures, XP has a nice tool.

It lets you downsize the images so they aren't as large.

PART TWO!

Here's a good one. If you download an image from your camera, it's very likely not compressed well. Remember that compression takes CPU cycles and POWER. On AA battery power, a balance had to be made (AKA compromise) on time vs. power vs. storage space.

Do your own TEST. Open the JPEG in PAINT. Then do the SAVE AS, but under OPTIONS try the quality at 25, 50 and 75 on the slide scale.

View the results and decide if you can use 25, 50 or 75. Now compare this file size with the original.

I think you can see this tip well now.
